The Republicans have taken control of the U.S. legislative agenda for the next two years if not longer, and that has political and market implications up until 2016 and likely beyond.
Let’s see how they handle this role, given the divisiveness within the party itself and the fact that it did not really run on a theme (like Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America” back in 1994).

It’s a good day to be a stock holder with the US shifting power to the republicans because although these are American markets we as Canadians are very much affected by it.
It also helps to have a portfoliio mostly consisting of US stocks. So i am a very happy investor 🙂
I just hope Canada doesn’t become another US where our political structure only favors one side (Conservatives). I still think we were foolish to keep Harper in charge for another 8 years 🙁
In the short term it is good for markets but the long term it isnt’. Does anyone even remember the 2008 crisis? That was caused by the republicans.
Why is it every midterms democrats take a beating and republicans take a bit more of the pie? We’ve seen this story before.

Although this is Financial Post. This article is clearly one-sided and favors cuts that favor the many in hopes of gains for the few. Shame. I understand everyone wants to make it big (in terms of wealth) but we need a balance of making sure others in the nation are doing well too otherwise in the end the whole economy will collapse.
Show me the money! Sadly only the top 1% will see any benefit to this.
