A short time clip from the 1968 Liberal Party of Canada leadership convention where the brilliant former Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau brings up the laying foundation for his vision of a perfect Canada.

I felt this was a necessary share for those feeling gloom with all this financial crisis, and wars, and protests.

  1. I think of myself as a “Just Society” Canadian!

As part of completing a Ba degree in political science, I wrote a fourth-year paper on Pierre Elliot Trudeau’s vision of the “Just” country we could be . My area of concentration  was constitutional politics in Canada.

Trudeau embodied for me my very ideal of the engaged, intelligent citizen.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Prime Minister Trudeau briefly, in 1969, during his first election campaign. He did not disappoint!  Rather, he dazzled and inspired with his sharp-as-a-razor wit and intellect.

Ah….for those heady days! I still hold the ideal of our “Just Society” in my heart.

  2. I wish the clip was the full speech. It sounds very interesting. Anyone know where i can get the whole thing?

  3. I am old. I remember when this was broadcast on the radio. It was a great day.

  4. I am not a fan of Trudeau but then i am a Conservative at heart and so his views are very foreign to me.

  5. Canada is way more “Just” than the U.S. will ever be. We may be viewed as boring but it is a nice mix of capitalism and socialism.

  6. When teh Liberal party had more power than it does now. The conservatives control everything now despite our nation being people of Liberal mindsets. Just drives me crazy that Liberals dont have as much influence these days.

  7. Quite possibly our greatest prime minister. He had a strong impact on our version of Universal Health care.

  8. And alas Canada is more right-leaning and stearing more away from this vision. We are becoming more like the US each year.

  9. A visionary Prime Minister! I wish we had him and not this joke in Harper.
