Canadian opposition parties brought down the Conservative government in a no confidence vote Friday, triggering an election that polls show the Conservatives will win.

The opposition parties held Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government in contempt of Parliament in a 156-145 vote for failing to disclose the full financial details of his tougher crime legislation, corporate tax cuts and plans to purchase stealth fighter jets.

Opinion polls expect Harper’s Conservative Party to win re-election but not a majority, meaning he likely will continue to govern with a minority in Parliament, dependent on opposition votes to stay afloat.  Read More…

  1. Its starts off with little things that dirty up Canada’s image. Soon it will be the important things like unviersal healthcare that will be attacked.

    We must get rid of Harper and his distate for middle-class right away.

  3. @carol, indeed it is. With our focus more on unnecessary corporate tax cuts and buying expensive, unneeded war planes we are looking more and more like the U.S. and we know how that turned out. Yikes!

  7. The opposition party or conservatives…it doesnt matter since they pretty much do the same thing which is not give a hoot about the Canadian people.

  8. The majority of Canadians are left leaning so to see something like this where the Liberals arent taken stronger advantage is quite sad!
